AT the end of the ceremony Charlotte slipped the blade of her new turquoise handled knife into the wet red earth and the rain and the stormheads and thunder ran off to the East to give way to a radiant blue in the sky and cotton candy clouds, and we decided to climb up to the base of one of the gargantuan ancient hands of some thousand-foot-tall buried warrior shoving up out of the ground on each side of the old dirt road.
